Religious Education |
For the teaching of Religious Education we use the scheme ‘The Way, The Truth and The life’.
Key Stage 1: Engaging stories, songs, and activities to introduce fundamental religious concepts.
Key Stage 2: Pupils explore Christianity in depth and in Year 5 also look at other faiths such as Islam and Judaism.
There are specific units which cover teaching about the Sacraments as follows:
Book 3: Sacraments – Baptism, Reconciliation and The Mass.
Book 5: Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Book 6: The Mass and Sacrament of Confirmation.
Please see the ‘Curriculum’ area of our website for our Religious Education curriculum plan.

Below are links for each year group which show the syllabus in more depth.
In addition to the main scheme world religions are also taught in Key Stage 2. These are block taught over a 2 day period in the Summer 2 term.
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7th). The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, to pray the Rosary.
The Mini Vinnies visited Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to let them explore Rosary beads and said the Hail Mary with them.
The Mini Vinnies, with Mrs Van Es, went into the Chapel to say the Rosary before school began for an open drop in session.
“To pray the Rosary for children and even more with children, training them from their earliest years to experience this daily ‘pause for prayer’ …is a spiritual aid which should not be underestimated”
Pope John Paul II
November is a time when we remember all those who have lost their lives in war. Our Year 6 class attend the Cenotaph and pray, paying their respects.
